In this course, initial lessons introduce
the Japanese writing systemthe phonetic hiragana and
katakana and the character-based kanji.
We provide practice sheets for your own study of
hiragana/katakana and focus on conversation skill in the class. Basic grammar is introduced. By the end of
this course, you will know how
to write your own name, introduce themselves, ask and
tell time; use numbers, and
learn about 20 kanji and a limited vocabulary
(about 190 words) using present tense.

In this upper-beginners'
level course, you learn additional verb
formsthe Ta-form, the Te-form, and the volitional
